Wenford Comparisons
Andrew Jones

Dear Keith, if only we could run the clock back! For those following my article on the Wenfordbridge Branch, we will reach Helland, before the New Year.
The attached photograph shows just how close the railway ran to neighbouring buildings, something I doubt we will ever see again, in this safety conscious society of ours.
               Best wishes Andrew
Many thanks Andrew if you want to look at Andrews steadily growing collection of pictures click here and scroll down to Section 6. It may take some time to load.

Gale Damage at Long Rock
Roger Salter

The severe gales of Wednesday night/Thursday brought down this large fir tree in long rock depot, luckily no one was injured & no known damage to railway stock or passing motorists. The tree fell through the perimeter fence onto the main road in Long Rock taking workmen most of the day to clear

Alex Green
presents
The story of
         Regional Railways

For details of the venue please click here.
Alex will remind us of the very significant change that occurred towards the end of the nationalised BR era when the concept of sectorisation and the creation of InterCity, Regional Railways and Network South-East revolutionised the way Britain's railways were organised and run. Alex is the brother of well-known railway manager Chris Green who also once gave a most interesting talk to the CRS and we can look forward to another fascinating review of a very significant period.
Derek Buttivant  writes a further paragraph on Regional Railways, a taster for Saturday evening.
You could argue that 1982 was a year as important in British railway history as 1923 (the grouping) and 1948 (nationalisation). This splendidly detailed and illustrated volume covers the 30 years from 1982 when railways in Britain emerged from decades of decline and began the revival which is still ongoing in 2016. The term Sectorisation was coined to mark the transformation of the network from its post-1948 "regions" into a number of businesses - sectors - which gained some autonomy in promoting new and expanded services very often across previously rigid boundaries.
Who remembers Wales and West, Wessex or even Alphaline? These and many other brand names came (and went) before, in 1996, the sectors disappeared again in John Major's dash to achieve privatistion. One effect was to diversify train liveries and provide photographers with a host of new opportunities to capture multi-coloured trains in diverse locations.
           Derek Buttivant          Many thanks Derek
