On my walk back past the sidings at Goodrington at 3.15 I was fortunate to see the shunting operation and even more lucky to get 50007 and D1015 side by side. Not only was D1015 masquerading as D1011 on one side but 50007 was also pretending to be 50034. Copyright Clive Smith.

44871 and the support coach were detached, and ran to St. Blazey. They then reversed, the loco deposited the support coach in platform 3, before the loco left light engine for St. Blazey and turning. Copyright Owen Brown.

I chose not to follow the masses to the turntable at St. Blazey this week, and instead headed to Par Station to see 'rear gunner' 47812 perform some shunting. It runs back through Par Platform 3 to collect the steam locos support coach. Copyright Jon Hird.

Owing to the London train calling at additional stops in Cornwall playing safe was the idea as in previous years we missed the Gunnislake, so a quick change was made at Liskeard to take us to Looe. Copyright Roger Winnen.

A CRS visit to The Bideford Railway Centre
28.09.2024

This should have been a visit to the Lynton & Barnstaple Steam Gala, however, as we arrived at Barnstaple a bus was seen departing from outside of the station, empty, with no destination 15 minutes before ours was scheduled to depart. We waited for an hour, but nothing showed up, and unable to contact the Bus Company by telephone a decision was made to instead visit the Bideford Railway Heritage Centre.

The Bodmin Railway Winter Steam Up
29.12.2024

The Bodmin Railway held their annual 'winter steam up' yesterday, 29.12.2024. The event featured resident Small Prarie 5552 and ex-Port of Par Bagnall 'Judy'. There was plenty of excitement for the visitors - the Boscarne branch, having been unused over Christmas, was extremely slippery which proved too challenging for both steam locos, resulting in the use of hired-in Class 10 D3489 to act as a thunderbird to rescue the trains.

A well-attended event which seemed to be enjoyed by all, a well-done to the Bodmin Railway for putting it on.

Despite a spirited departure from Boscarne, the 1 in 40 gradient and the slippery rails proved too much for 'Judy', she slipped to a stand just past my position. 29.12.2024, copyright Jon Hird.
