Many thanks David

Rail maps - a handy guide

26/7/2014

Mike Roach noticed this handy site.  If you want to see where railways are and also where they once were both standard gauge railways and narrow gauge mineral tramways take a look at this website - it will prove useful and very interesting.

Craigs Back - a very big welcome.

26/7/2014

You may have noticed that Craig Munday has been absent from our site for  a short while - he's been taking a holiday in Turkey. I can say that now he's back, a nice break from the long duty hours recently put in I hope.
To celebrate his return and the smashing weather Craig has sent in the following quartet of lovely summer views.

Many thanks Craig

The Lostwithiel derailment                  Daniel Harris

24/7/2014

More pictures of the derailment kindly sent in by Daniel Harris taken from the south side of the loop illustrate the problems associated with the recovery of the derailed CDA's on the Lostwithiel down loop. With many thanks to Daniel for these pictures which illustrate the difficulties faced by Network Rail staff in restoring normal services.  Well done.  N.B.  These pictures were taken through the adjacent chain link fence.  Many thanks Daniel

At the actual catch point, this is the scene which greeted the recovery engineers. The nearest CDA has clearly one set of wheels well and truly off the running line with the second set stopped in the 'nick of time'. The following CDA is also clearly on path to be derailed. Copyright Daniel Harris
Picture
Another view looking towards the west end of the loop, the leading CDA clearly down in the ballast. The recovery operation made all the more difficult due to the signal wires extremely close by. Copyright Daniel Harris.

One slip in the rerailing operation could have resulted in serious damage to the signal wires and pulleys. Copyright Daniel Harris.

Who is Victor Menhennet?

The following clip of shows the Waterloo Central Railway on which Victor is a volunteer. A very brief history - Victor was born in Redruth, emigrated to Camborne then emigrated to Waterloo, Ontario. A true Cornishman Victor is an avid reader of Cornish Newpapers and sends us many clips for which we are most grateful!

Latest pictures of the derailment July 23rd 2014,                                                                                     Nathan Stockman

23/7/2014

Hi Keith,
Popped up to Lostwithiel for 1C99 and 57305 as it was over 200 minutes late at this stage and is pictured coming down the up line..... 66176 is sat shut down in the down loop next to the errant 6G05.
Rear three wagons of 6G05 dropped off the catch points, passenger services single line working Largin East to Par all day, huge amount of delay minutes and cancellations.
Derailment photo is around 17:00 and shows the two wagons off, the third was only one axle off and had been dealt with by this pic.  Cheers  Nathan  Many thanks Nathan
