N.B. After a super start to the day grotty weather came in driving rain.
Craig writes As promised, some photos from today 66030 & 6Z17 Westbury to Moorswater seen at Liskeard and Moorswater. Also included a moonlit shot of the box, and super sunrise too! After the 'last rites' for the last ever Moorswater Cement - the train ran again today with DBS power 66030. Fortunately for us Craig was on hand and here we have his pictures taken today. Many thanks Craig
N.B. After a super start to the day grotty weather came in driving rain. Latest re Moorswater.
Will be running Monday 28th January run by DBS! Paths in system: 6Z17 06:53 Westbury Cement Works EWS to Moorswater LaFarge arr 11:57. 6Z66 14:43 Moorswater LaFarge to Westbury Cement Works EWS arr 19:59. Good News, many thanks for that Nathan Craig writes :- Pictures of the long stored CDAs in St Blazey yard being cut up by Henry Orchard. Paradoxically, these wagons may find themselves crushed and despatched via the St Blazey scrap wagons! Thanks Craig
Liskeard to Plymouth From Saturday 16th February until Thursday 21st February there will be no trains between Liskeard and Plymouth. This is to facilitate 're-proofing' of Coldrennick viaduct ( This is 795 ft long and 138' high, situated just east of Menheniot station) and other work on the Royal Albert Bridge.
Gunnislake branch On Sunday 24th February trains will only operate between Gunnislake and Bere Alston making 11 journeys - a record for the branch - the last train of the day returning to Plymouth. In both of the above cases replacement bus services will operate. Network Rail is to be congratulated on its ongoing maintenance programme. Reference the railtour to Looe - Feb 10th 2013. It seems that Network Rail have agreed to route the train via the non-platformed through line at Plymouth. Bit of rare track! Thanks for that John
Question :- Why are there yellow boarded areas on the down loop just east of Par.
Answer :- The Par ramps at the East end were for Health and Safety purposes for traincrew to step down onto when HSTs were being turned there for terminating services during some engineering work over 12 months ago. A heads up for Sun Feb 10th, a railtour is visiting the Looe branch again, this time a postponement from a while ago. It will feature class 37s and will visit Moorswater too (mention has been made before). Timings here:

He assures me that all is well but very cold at Retford. In addition to a very nice picture at Trerule Foot which he sent - see Cornwall Main Line section. He also enclosed a view of the 'frozen north' ,which, as an exception to the rule I show. Aren't we lucky down here? Perhaps I speak too soon.
Keith,
Thought I would send some shots of Long Rock in the last few days. The digger pictures are only relevant because they are being reinforced along this stretch mainly for the railway first and then of course to protect the village which is 1 degree below sea level!!! The fuel train is slightly different because they were taken from the Automated Long Rock X which everyone has to use for the present!! And for some reason I rarely take Regards, Roger S Many thanks Roger Not much to report railway wise at the moment. The clay & fuel arrangements have changed recently, and it results in the fuel trip to Penzance now running on a Friday morning arriving at Long Rock at 08.45 and departing soon afterwards at 09.15.
There are other changes mooted, but no firm confirmations. There is one bright note, that there will be Wed / Thurs & Fri freight departures out of the county each of these days. These will be IMERYS, scrap & fuel traffic going to Exeter Riverside to make up a larger train from there. Many thanks to Craig for the information above. |
