YET ANOTHER SLEEPER FAILURE!!                                                                                            Reports by Craig Munday & Keith Barrow

5/9/2015

Morning Keith
Up to see yet more class 57 problems on the air waves. This time 57604 stopped near Doublebois with fire bells sounding. The train limped onto Par where two pwer cars were attached to the now detrained rake & errant loco.
The set left Par at 09.58 as is pictured heading West to Long Rock at Crugwallins West of Burngullow.
Cheers  Craig   Many thanks Craig

Hi Keith There were more problems for FGW's troublesome fleet of 57s early this morning, when 57604 failed with fire alarm ringing at Speritt Tunnel between Liskeard and Bodmin Parkway while working 1C99, the 23.45 Paddington - Penzance. Laira duly dispatched 43163 and 43030 to rescue the train, which terminated at Par 148 minutes late. The ensemble then continued ECS to Penzance T&RSMD as 5C99, pictured at Treleigh east of Redruth. Naturally this also led to the cancellation of the FGW summer Saturday loco-hauled on the final day of the season. [Image attached] Kind Regards Keith Barrow  Many thanks for your report.

What a sad ending to the summer season of local hauled day workings of the sleeper stock. About time the 57's were replaced by something more reliable.
