The attached is a shot that I think will be appreciated by your site's viewers. It was actually taken by my younger brother but he couldn't recall where he took it. The data for the vehicle isn't in question but does anybody recognise the location? My brother thought he took it at Torrington but that has been disputed.
151002 BUS PROVINCIAL JUO988
JUO 988 is Southern National 1223, a 1948 Bristol L6B which originally had a Beadle half-cab coach body. In 1958 the coach body was removed, the chassis lengthened, and it was fitted with the ECW full-front bus body shown in your photo. It was sold in 1969.
Service 143 was a Bideford – Abbotsham – Westward Ho! – Bideford circular, so not Torrington as you had been led to believe.
Best regards, Mike Many thanks Mike, what a smashing picture.
Footnote - We were once on a tour of North Devon organised by the PRC using single decker 373. We were heading for Bude at the time. A car full of tourists who were lost had been following us as the destination board on display showed 'Exeter' - you can't always believe what you see!
