Problems appear to have started around 1130 with possibly with the 0805 Penzance to Paddington being heavily delayed..
At 1307 the 1258 Exeter (St David’s) – Basingstoke passed Pinhoe. The then very late running 0805 Penzance to Paddington arrived at 1316. This was held until the Basingstoke had cleared Feniton. The Paddington left at 1323 one of the few occasions that two trains were in the single line section between Pinhoe and Honiton which is permitted with the intermediate block signal at Feniton. Next to arrive was the the 1010 1A83 Penzance to Paddington at 1339 which had to await the down 1028 1C79 Paddington – Penzance. This train was held at Honiton to enable the up SWT Basingstoke service and the very late 0805 from Penzance, which at Honiton was now 116 minutes late !!! to pass. Finally at 1348 the 1010 from Penzance got under way. Many thanks to David Tozer for his detailed report and picture. Please see a further report on this incident dated 17th February 2015
