We were delighted to have Eric Rabjohns with us again on a very informative walk from Crofthandy, the terminus of the Poldice Tramway to Scorrier. Eric is full of information and charm, which delights everyone that knows him. Many thanks Eric.
The Poldice Tramway opened in 1819 and closed about 1865, conveying ores to Portreath for shipment to South Wales for smelting, and bringing back coal and other materials for the mines in the Gwennap area. The Williams family of Scorrier House had the controlling powers behind the railway together with Fox & Co who owned Portreath Harbour.

150418k The Directors car from the Poldice Tramway which was found in this building at the back of the Fox and Hounds is now a prime exhibit in Truro Museum. The tramway coming from Crofthandy ran alongside this road before passing under the GWR by means of a bridge at the west end of the station.Copyright Roger Winnen
