I thought you may like to know about emergency exercise "Puffing Devil" that was held at Truro County hall on Fri 13th(!). Cornwall Council arranged and hosted a mock train crash at Paradise Crossing, Truro with a lorry carrying gas bottles. The scenario was set in July 2015, with 1C77 as the train involved.
The lorry driver lost control and ploughed through the gates and was immediately hit by the Penzance bound HST, causing it to derail and catch fire. There were over 40 fatalities, and many others injured.
The exercise was held in various rooms in County Hall, with over 90 delegates from the NHS, GWR, Network Rail, The Red Cross, all the emergency services, Council and many more. It was a hectic first few hours and the exercise lasted all day.
Many lessons were learned by all concerned, and it was well organised, and the team work between all the individual players and their organisation was impressive.
Let's hope & pray, we never need it for real.
I've supplied some pictures from the main chamber, and operations room taken during the day.
Best wishes, Craig. It is good to know that it was a successful exercise. We have every confidence in all concerned.
