The plan to raise a section at Dawlish has been criticised by some residents concerned about their privacy. The walkway along the sea wall is used by thousands of people every year. In the 1840's Isambard Kingdom Brunel who built the wall lost the same battle with land owners. The residents seem to have forgotten that had the railway not been there all their properties would have been completely washed away!
