I paid a visit to Dartmoor Railway at Okehampton, and the 'Thumper' demu no. 1118 in blue livery with yellow end panels not reaching across the whole vehicle was running. On Saturdays you can go to both Meldon (can get off and look at the viaduct or go for a walk and come back on a later train) and Bow (no joining or alighting there). A small museum on platform 2 has some interesting photos and mementoes. I looked at the stalls and was able to add a couple of local railway books to my collection!
The Dartmouth Steam Railway was running a frequent service, using 7820 'Dinmore Manor' and resident 7827 'Lydham Manor', but also using their resident diesels - class 25 no.7535 and the 03 and 04 shunters. The shunters worked a train in the early evening, which kept the normal time of 30 minutes for the whole line.
On Saturdays, the 17.06 from Paddington ends at Plymouth; yesterday a few minutes late and decanted a large Cornwall contingent, who fitted - just - into a 2 car 150 dmu. Entertainment was provided by a group of ladies definitely in celebratory mode and a good memory for the words of some old Abba hits! Regards John Thanks John I understand Roger enjoyed the same entertainment!!!!
