An interlude at Lostwithiel
Andrew & Diane Jones
Lostwithiel never fails to impress, even though its had its fair share of modernisation recently.
I hate to say it but the new signalling has improved the level crossing timings with less disruption to residents, but you miss the bells and levers and that personal touch.
That said there is plenty of activity to be had with the Fowey branch activity and long may it survive!
A few passengers were travelling to Truro and Plymouth, one person remarked at how sad it was that the railways were treating its customers to unreliable schedules, due to numerous strikes and he couldn’t understand how the salary of a train driver was 3 times his sons, who worked at a local supermarket.
I know from my own experience that our grand daughter now uses national express buses to Bristol due to the cost and unreliability of the railways, which is very sad as it seems now a new generation is turning its back on GWR and general railways as a whole.
Enough said.
Mid day is a good time to photograph at Lostwithiel and I have attached some shots of the proceedings. I was lucky to catch two castle class services and the freight to Fowey plus a few of the new order.
I will be back again soon!
very best wishes Andrew and Diane
