Lostwithiel - bowling green!

Back on the 28th April 1990 the CRS ran a charter train - the 'Cornish Clay Rambler'. It so happened that our train scored a number of 'lasts' - it was the last railtour to visit St Dennis Junction sidings, the last railtour to visit Pontsmill and also the last railtour to visit the bay platform at Lostwithiel. Lostwithiel sidings including the bay were officially closed last year and due to be lifted.  However our concern was raised when very recently, in the last three weeks, the bay sidings were cleared of much of the overgrowth. We feared that the BLS railtour on 10th May would, as BLS railtours do do every bit of track and visit Lostwithiel bay and sidings.  Roger Winnen was at Lostwithiel as the railtour arrived but was much relieved when it sailed straight on and our record remains!!  An opportunity missed by the BLS!

Hello Mr Jenkin
 Just seen your article regarding the recent vegetation clearance at Lostwithiel. 
 For your information, this was done by Network Rail at the request of Lostwithiel Town Council, following a very interesting meeting with Cornwall Council and FGW.  Network Rail also did a similar exercise to the old Cattle dock siding on the upside of the crossing.
 Many people have commented on what an improvement this has been for our station, and we are grateful to all involved for making it happen.
