Late yesterday evening a six coach train powered by class 31 285 arrived at Penzance and then departed almost immediately for St Ives with the locomotive leading. where it arrived at 23.50. The train with a Driving Van Trailer stayed at St Ives only long enough for the crew to change ends departing at 23.58. Located at about the middle of this train was a gauging vehicle the laser beams from which were clearly visible at night.
Early in this morning St Ives was again disturbed when a yellow Network Rail class 150 visited the branch at around about 05.00. This train was later seen heading east past Carn Brea at 07.45.
It is understood that gauging train will return again this evening and cover other Cornish branches.
