Once a month we get a break from the normal passages of Class 159’s along with an odd Class 158 from Salisbury. Yes, we see the Network Rail NMT HST which passes Exmouth Junction around 0925 and returns around 1030. With all the diverted HST’s it ran last Thursday (23rd January 2014) and provided and interesting sight. It was scheduled to terminate at Central. I walked into town and took a shot of the train entering the only operational bay platform. Yes, the two power cars and five Mark 3’s just got in. Also this train has one coach with a pantograph in it. You can just make it out going under the New North Road bridge arch.
The bay platform saw some use last year by extra Sunday trains on the Exmouth branch. Other than that it has seen sporadic use to turn back late running Waterloo train. I am also hearing whispers that Network Rail are putting back a through road at Central in three months time. We will have to wait and see if the rumour mill is true.
