Bristol & Exeter Railway
4-4-0 Saddle Tank,Penzance
Roger Winnen

Picture
A Bristol & Exeter Railway 4-4-0 Saddle Tank at Penzance Station. This engine was one of twenty six built between 1855 and 1873 by various firms for the B & E Railway to the broad gauge. Being broad gauge the photograph would date between 1879 when Penzance Station was rebuilt and 1892 when the broad gauge was abolished. A similar engine of the class was involved in the Norton Fitzwarren Accident of 1890 involving a boat train colliding with a goods train killing ten passengers. The artiste has been at work on the engines chimney. Roger Winnen Collection
Trowbridge

Picture
A rare loco for us down in the far south west but common enough up in Wiltshire. A Hymek calls at a Trowbridge you wouldn't recognise nowadays. 1966. Copyright Martin Scane

34002 is of particualr interst to us in Cornwall as on 3rd May 1964 it hauled the last BR operated steam train down the Cornish main line after which the turntable was decomissioned.
Picture
Salisbury stands at Redruth on the 3rd May 1964. This was the last ever steam train to stop at Redruth. The next CRS meeting on the 14th January 2017 will be held in the Memorial Hall which is very close by this location - just off to the right. This picture taken by KJ
Dorchester
Mike Morant

Picture
It's a poor negative but is here to demonstrate the odd traffic arrangements for 'Up' services that stopped at Dorchester South station in steam days. This is Ivatt 'Mickey Mouse 2-6-2T no. 41324 moving past the 'Up' branch that required stopping services to reverse into the platform as shown here. [Mike Morant collection]
