After ten years in service, the E. & T.V.R. utilicon has had its black plastic upholstery replaced by a traditional carriage moquette, "Bournemouth Blue," a pattern which should be familiar to your senior members.
On my previous Piaggio, I stitched the fabric myself but I remember bending the needle of my sewing machine so I gave this job to a local vehicle trimmer. He also put a piece of carpet on top of the "serpentine" springs so that now I don't have an impression on my hind quarters after every long run.

According to the oracle, "Bournemouth Blue" was introduced when the line to Southampton and Bournemouth was electrified in 1967 and survived as a standard pattern until sectorization of British Rail.

Final thoughts :- My first Piaggio (left) started work in 1982. It had a cab shaped more like the Vespa scooter from which it was derived in 1948. Sir Kenneth Grange is credited with designing the H.S.T., but where did he get his inspiration? Was it while on holiday in Italy?
