The train headed by 4597 is heading west on the main line. It can be seen in the picture that the lower distant arm for Penwithers Junction is at 'clear'. This was only possible for main line trains (for Falmouth, the distant was locked because of the speed restriction over the junction). The train was therefore for the Perranporth branch, or a Penzance stopper.
