In 1986 Ford Viaduct on the old Southern roue into Plymouth was demolished, a process which the contractors found harder than expected as much of the infill was in concrete rather than waste. In retrospect, in these days of cycle and walkways it is a shame that the viaduct and other bridges on this route were removed. It would have formed a handy pedestrian come cycleway from the centre of Plymouth to the east bank of the Tamar. The reduction of the double track Southern line to single from St Budeaux onwards would have provided a path for this route. Ah well - too late now, but a shame.
