Roger was up very early this morning to greet the 31 arriving at 04.27. Craig had previously seen it on and off the Newquay branch. He has to keep awake for this evenings run to St Ives!
Morning Keith,
The monthly visit to the Exeter – Salisbury line produced a little surprise a few minutes ago. On the rear of the 0457 1Q23 Old Oak Common – Exeter (New Yard) was newly named power car 43013 ‘Railway Observer’. 43062 ‘John Armitt ‘ was leading. Oh this photograph was taken at Exhibition Way near the old Devon County Showground. Regards David Tozer Many thanks David Hello Keith
Here's a few photos from last night at Goonbarrow, I was booked on for one train. 3Q01 to visit Newquay & back with 31233 providing the power, and a DBSO ( Driving trailer), so plenty of time to arrange a photo or two. Hope you like them. Craig Many thanks Craig The pedestrian improvements at Hayle station coupled with the removal of the very dangerous level crossing have continued albeit rather slowly, and now, almost complete make quite a grand feature which is more than can be said for the new Asda store nearby. Roger took a visit there last Saturday evening, his pictures held as more news of other events came in. 140614g On the approach to this bridge was reputably the first sand drag in the country. This would have diverted runaway wagons up a slope seen to the right just beyond the bridge. It is hoped that this feature will eventually be revealed. A plaque on the adjacent wall commemorates this fact. Copyright Roger Winnen Hi Keith Attached is a photo taken at Truro Station recently. In the left foreground is a ground disc signal which once upon a time controlled entry to the sidings on the south side of the line east of the station. The sidings were taken out of use many years ago and dwellings were built on the site. The point survived for many years, at first complete, and then partly complete. Even the last remains of the point were removed a couple of years ago. Yet the ground disc survived. I wonder if it now has any function? The cross-over has its own ground disc signal which can be seen just before the cross-over. Regards Mike See answer from Roy Hart below The answer - from Roy Hart
The disc has a very important function: it signals backing movements over the level crossing towards the crossover. Roy Hart Many thanks Roy The end of another very active day for Roger, how he can keep up the pace one wonders, still he does and we have his souvenir pictures to enjoy. Thank you Roger.

A comment from David Tozer - many thanks for this info Hi Keith, Just seen the shot of the trio of 143’s. This train is regularly worked by three units. It all stems from over crowding issues with school children in the Torbay area which was shown of the local news months ago. I would suggest this is the only regular working of three sets of 143’s in service in the West Country. On reaching Exeter at least one is detached. I have seen a 150/2 and a pair of 143’s on this train. Dave Roger spent much of the 15th June up in Glorious Devon, experiencing the Glorious Sunshine (But we had some down here in Cornwall as well. The sun helps bring on the crops but also brings in a 'crop of photographs' as well - so here goes. Many thanks Roger Evening Keith,
A visit to Powderham this evening to catch 31233 working the 3Q23 Exeter (Riverside) – Exeter (Riverside). And no I will not be at Polsloe Bridge tonight at 0040 and 0122 when it runs down the Exmouth Branch Regards Dave Many thanks David and congratulations - on the web within two hours of the event. |
