The picture below is one of a series added to our Taunton to Westbury section. They include various different views of Frome station, of Clink Road Junction, of Fairwood Junction and finally a look around Westbury including Westbury North signalbox. Many thanks for your pictures Derek. There is a lot of interest in this picture taken around about 1972. What at first appears to be a steam hauled goods train is in fact an engineering train complete with a steam crane. A serious accident had occurred here when an up goods became derailed causing serious damage to the permanent way especially the diamond crossing which carried down trains bound for Frome across the up main. Careful examination will reveal that the diamond crossing has been replaced temporarily by plain track. Derek tells us that for some days all trains were routed via Frome. If anybody has an exact date it would be appreciated. Copyright Derek Buttivant.
Today it was announced on TV that the refurbishment project had reached the half way stage. There was perhaps a ten second view of a picture of the bridge. With us, care of Trevor, we see a series of views. Turn to the Inside Stories Features Page for more pictures.
Steve writes :- Last September I managed to visit LA. So here are some pics all taken on 20th September 2014. Steve Lucky you. Many thanks. Now look for the rest of this collection from Steve Widdowson in the Features Section.
Hi Keith, After a trip to Manchester at the weekend, we chose the rather ill-fated 1C84 12.28 Ex Paddington via Yeovil Pen Mill on Sunday 8th to travel back on. All was OK until Honiton where we got snarled up in the Exeter area power failure. We sat for over 80 mins before getting on our way again.
I did snap the train, and an Eastbound HST at Yeovil PM during a pathing stop, and a rather nice "Golden glint" shot on departure from Honiton. Cheers - Craig (safely back where I belong). As usual many thanks Craig Hi, Attached is a picture taken on 23rd June 1987 at Penzance with 50050 & 50004 about to depart with the sleeper. Steve Widdowson Many thanks Steve
Just east of Bow ......due I think a wagon defect ..in the distance it looks like a steam breakdown crane at work...Graham was then if not some years later the Exeter area PW supr. Tony Hill
.... Tony added later that The wagons derailed were 2 axle ex Iron Ore VB Tipplers which ended their days in Departmental use. Keith, Difficult conditions with the sun. One of the 1010 1A83 Penzance – Paddington taken near the old show field, Exeter on the approach to Pinhoe. The rear power car was 43197, on the front was 43138. Dave Many thanks David A series of pictures kindly provided for our use by Graham Mann Network Rail Programme Manager have been added to the Exeter to Exmouth Junction section. Here are two examples of the pictures.
I thought the last mystery picture difficult but nevertheless three of you gave the correct answer. How about this one??
I have received quite a bundle of most interesting pictures from Roger Smith, unusual locations, different angles etc. These will be on the site in due course. however, this one I thought very unusual - answer tomorrow Sunday 8th February. Thank you Roger, note that we now have four Roger's on our list!!! The picture is taken from near Newquay Hospital and is looking out over Trenance Viaduct, you can just see the end of the viaduct, we're looking SE as a Class 142 heads towards Newquay on the 2nd August 1987. Well done and congratulations to Mike Roach, Chris Osment and also to Gareth Thornton who as a bonus also gets his pictures on site. No I got that wrong, it's our bonus! Hi Keith. Is it Gnome World campsite near Indian Queens? Also, proof that Goonbarrows Sentinel shunters are alive and well. Sorry if the picture quality isn't great but I took these with my phone.
Best regards, Gareth. (Goonbarrow Signaller.) Nothing wrong with the pictures Gareth, many thanks. |
