During the week a good friend of ours Derek Brooks of the Goonhavern Old Cornwall Society sent in the picture below of Perranwell viaduct on the Chacewater to Newquay branch asking if it was of interest - it most certainly was.
The picture was given him by Mrs Angela Brock - it has been in the family collection for years. The picture has no date but it must be pre world war 2 and so at least eighty years old, and hasn't seen the light of day until now. The picture is in excellent condition, there were one or two scratches but these are easily removed using a photo editing facility. The train is headed by a 45 or 55 class loco and is making its way from Goonhavern towards Perranporth which will be the next stop on route to Chacewater and probably Truro. One can only guess that the unknown photographer was about to take a picture of family members by the viaduct when a train was heard approaching, how marvellous it was that in those days the camera managed to 'stop' the train and produce such a clear picture. This is a view from the north side of the viaduct, a clue to the position of the photographer is the road seen through the rightmost arch. This is Church Hill on the A3075 road.
