Class 50 50012 Benbow was the first large logo blue one I saw, so I knew that Michael Forward’s photo of it parked at Laira in plain blue with its roof missing was not the scrap yard view it resembled! What caught my eye was the Hymek bogie lurking on the left, over 4 years after the type had become extinct on BR. This was probably in occasional use as an ‘accommodation bogie’, used to support one end of a loco with a bogie removed for repair. I have seen a photo of a Class 31/4 at Old Oak Common with one end resting on a Hymek bogie, temporarily making it a B – A1A.....it did look rather odd! Perhaps somebody has a similar photo of a Class 50 at Laira in B – Co configuration, or at least confirm that this was what it was used for?
Best regards, Neil Phillips
Many thanks Neil - can anybody answer his question please?
