A most interesting picture taken inside the station at Penzance prior to the introduction of the new layout at Penzance which occurred with effect from January 1940. A much appreciated picture from the Paddy Bradley Collection.

​An additional note from Roy Hart. 
A picture from the early Edwardian era. Until the rebuilding of 1937-40 there were only two platforms. Nearest in this picture is platform 1, then two carriage sidings, then platform 2. Both platforms could be used in both directions and both were desperately short.
The photo was, of course, taken from the grand staircase which used to be the main entrance.
I go for 1902-5.

280178a The Cornish Riviera Express hauled by a Class 50 in Platform 1 with the guard in attendance wearing his gold braid chatting possibly to the shunter. At the rear stands an 08 shunter with a buffet car. The crossover is still operational between Platforms 2 and 3 and a Western National Bus is seen arriving heading for the Bus Station. It was very appropriate with the D Day 75th Anniversary coming up later this week that "Harry Patch" was trailing the 08:24 Cardiff with an immaculate 43096 on the front this morning (3rd June 2019). What a glorious sight!
