Below are a few photos taken on Monday24th March , which was a mostly sunny day. With mainline services running hourly between Penzance and Par due to engineering works between Par and Liskeard.

2. 43198 crosses the Hayle viaduct working 2C74 0941 Par to Penzance.
3. 43010 arrives at Hayle station working 2P77 1030 Penzance to Par.
4. 43186 at Redruth with Carn Brea monument and castle in the distance. Working 2P78 1130 Penzance to Par.
5. 43010 arrives at St Austell working 2P80 1330 Penzance to Par.
6. By this time the cloud had sadly moved in. 43010 at Truro working 2P83 1615 Penzance to Par. A sight to disappear by the end of the year, with both the HSTs and Semaphores going.

In a second hand book that I recently bought there was a photo of two Halls described as heading the Up CRE near Aller Junction on Saturday 5 September 1959. The caption added that on summer Saturdays in the late 1950s certain trains such as this were worked through from Penzance to Newton Abbot by two mixed traffic 4-6-0s, being taken over by a King at the latter. This is the opposite of the Down CRE and I wonder if the same two Cornish locos reversed at Newton Abbot and returned to Penzance with the Down CRE. Also, how did the King get to NA – from Laira or elsewhere?
In the summer 1960 timetable, the Up Saturday CRE is shown as calling at Plymouth so it is extremely likely that the loco change was made there and not NA. In the same timetable, the 10am Newquay to Paddington is not advertised to call at Plymouth and I have read that the loco change was made at Laira. In the same year, the 8.15 Perranporth to Paddington and 8.35 Falmouth to Paddington also omitted a stop at Plymouth so I wonder if their loco changes were made at Laira or NA. Can anyone provide any details?
Kind regards,
