This mornings pictures
Trewoon Bridge
Nathan Hadley
Dear Keith,
Please find attached 3 photos of the scene at Trewoon taken this rather grey morning by my son Nathan on his morning walk. Two are taken from the road on the north side and the third taken looking along the track eastwards from the bridge over Hembal Lane. The old bridge has been completely removed. Feel free to use them on your website if you so wish.
Yours sincerely, Phil  Hadley

Start made on the demolition of  Dawlish Boathouse
Dawlish
Clive Smith

Monday 5th February saw the start of the demolition of the building which was owned by Network Rail and in a state of disrepair. The sea wall will be rebuilt much higher here. Network Rail has said "A footprint will be left to show where the building stood and we plan to reuse the stone in constructing new public benches within the project. We’ll also need to adjust the bottom section of the existing footbridge steps at this location".

I took extensive photos on 5th September 2020 and the first picture shows a down Cross Country HST passing the boat house. The second picture shows Laira allocated 47478 approaching with the 1V71 07.20 Leeds - Penzance 'The Cornishman' on the 27th August 1980.

Regards, Clive Smith

D400 and Sir Edward Elgar at Reading

Picture
I send a picture which I hope will be of interest to members, namely 50007 and D400 at Reading on 15 June 1982. I had seen them earlier outside Old Oak Common depot and they took the Line to the West so maybe headed for Laira, perhaps someone knows. No Realtime Trains then so a lucky shot! Thanks Michael
Cornish Peaks

A trip down memory lane here with some oldies showing these versatile locos across the Duchy.

Picture
45046 stands at St Austell with the 10.20 Plymouth - Penzance on the 2nd May 1983 which was a bank holiday. No parcel vans on the train so the train was a much shorter load five. Note the steam from the loco's boiler gushing out at the rear. 45/0s were very infrequent on this train as it was a solid electric train heated (ETH) 45/1 turn. The loco off this train was booked to go back on the 13.45 Penzance - Bristol TM but for some reason 50011 was the returning loco this day which was wet and cool and I suspect the steam heating boiler was too much trouble for the secondman. A battered looking 45124 awaits departure from Penzance with the 13.45 to Bristol TM on the 23rd April 1983. Rather sad to report that there was some vandalism to three peaks allegedly by rail enthusiasts involving objects and some red paint. 45124 was one of the victims. Copyright Clive Smith.
Picture
45068 waits at platform 2 at Newquay on the front of the 18.00 to Plymouth on the 3rd August 1985. Platform 1 appears to be in disuse. 45068 was a bit of a rare beast on passenger trains being a 'no heat' peak (its steam heat boiler had been isolated) .45068 had arrived on the 1V73 08.38 from Manchester Piccadilly and I'd been on it since Bristol Temple Meads clocking up 183 miles. Many thanks Clive, Memories of the Peak of your spotting.
