West Somerset Railway
Diesel Gala 2019
Clive Smith
Despite the lack of heavier type 4 locos this year due to the condition of the track, the West Somerset Railway still managed to put together an attractive line-up of motive power. With the sun finally shining on Friday 21st June and a beer festival at Washford station to quench the thirst of enthusiasts, a great day was had by all. Here are six photos showing the six classes at work on the longest day.
Many thanks to you Clive - a great day - great coverage.

(2) D6566 arrives at Blue Anchor with the 09.20 Bishops Lydeard - Minehead. This should have been double-headed with D6575 which had some difficulties but did later work as a pair in the afternoon. 21st June 2019, Copyright Clive Smith,

(6) Finally the most attractive working of the day was the 15.44 Minehead - Bishops Lydeard 'Quantock Belle' with double-headed Hymeks D7018 and D7017. The gala has been D7018's first working since 1995 after painstaking work by the Diesel and Electric Preservation Group to restore it to its former glory. A beautiful sight and lovely sound leaving the seaside and journeying across the Quantock Hills. 21st June 2019. Copyright Clive Smith,

Visitor to Par

Please note the revised schedule which is as a result of Tornado being too long to fit on St Blazey's turntable. This now the first item on this news section.
Here the times for LNER A1 Pacific 60163's trip to Par this coming Sunday 23rd June on 'The Summer Cornishman'.  Note the use of a WCRC diesel for part of the return ECS working from St. Blazey, I assume this diesel is attached to the tour from Bristol as there are no paths shown for WCRC anywhere to Par until 14:26pm.  The coaching stock is EH01 BR Mk 1/2A's in Chocolate and cream livery: FO: 3098, 3107/10/12/22/25/40, TSO: 4902/27/63, 5009/40, TSO: 5350 (Mk2A), BCK: 21272, RBR: 1692, RMB: 1842/63, BGen: 6310:

The weather forecast at the moment does not do the title of this tour Justice!                 Heavy showers heaviest at abourt12.00

Regards, Karl (The Friends Of Penmere Station).

                                                                               Many thanks Karl.
