Sadly, not long after their delivery, Royal Mail made the decision to move much of their operations away from rail, focusing instead on road and air transport.
With a high route availability (RA8) largely due to their bo-bo axle configuration and relatively low ETS capabilities, operators have struggled to find alternative work on the network and many of the class have spent large periods of their lives in storage.
