Opened in September 1866 by the Bristol and Exeter Railway.
The station is grade 2 listed and retains almost all of its original features including the covered platform area which can be seen through the shop window.
Originally named Chard Joint it was renamed in 1928 as plain Chard.
Finally from 1949 it became Chard Central.
Ignoring the fact that the station has now been surrounded in development you get the feeling that you could walk in through the main entrance and still purchase a ticket to Taunton!
Very best wishes Andrew and Diane
