Collision at
Okeltor Level Crossing

Karl Hewlett
Operated as a light railway there is a requirement for a train to stop at the crossing and sound its horn before proceeding.  Who was at fault in this case it is not up to us to decide!  Many thanks to Karl Hewlett who found the following picture - please use the link provided to see it.
Karl writes - I have found within an article a image of the incident at Calstock, where a GWR 150/2 has hit a DPD van:

Westbury work and
Looking into the 'Crystal Ball'
Guy Vincent

Sadly the warnings about the days of the HSTs being numbered have now come true and it is now becoming ever more common to see a 'cucumber' or two passing on trains to and from the west of England.  There is a major engineering blockade at Westbury that starts next weekend and continues until 3rd January so I shall go over and get some shots of the work taking place.  In a nutshell all the points at the north end of the station (12 sets) are being replaced (these mostly date from April 1984 when the panel box was commissioned) and the ballast is being renewed.  Signalling is being upgraded and the platforms extended to take the new, longer 800 series of up to 10 cars.  All part of 'Building a Greater West'.  GWR Management are promising 5 car 165-166 'Turbos' on Cardiff-Portsmouths, to be introduced in stages from January so see how that goes.  We also have to learn the new short-form HST's or 'Castle' class that are to see use on the Cardiff-Taunton route and possibly to Weymouth in high summer.  So, interesting times ahead.

Again, my very best wishes to you, Roger and all involved  'behind the scenes' at CRS.  Long may you continue to thrive!
 Guy

With very best wishes to you Guy and many thanks for all of the detailed reports and pictures received over the past year/s - we look forward to more, especially during the Westbury blockage. We hope that they have good weather during this period although unfortunately this looks rather doubtful. Many thanks and best wishes - KJ and RW
