Relaying Eggesford
Alan Peters
Hi,
Attached two pictures of the Eggesford Down Loop relaying over the weekend of 5th / 6th January 2019 with DB, Colas and Freightliner motive power were all in attendance!

Picture (1)  Having spent Christmas at Tavistock Junction following an exam Colas Railfreight 70806 is seen just north of Eggesford station with a rake of empty Falcon wagons being loaded with spoil, the track had already been lifted from the down loop which was then hauled to Portsmouth Arms station where it was unloaded on the 5th January 2019, note the points indicator for the loop.

Picture (2) Last member of the class 70's, Colas Railfreight 70817 is seen at Eggesford with 10 loaded auto hopers, the train is pictured just South of Eggesford station dropping ballast on to the freshly laid track on the down loop in the evening of Sunday 6th January 2019, note the level crossing is out of use during the engineering works resulting in a lengthy diversion for motorists -
Alan Peters   Many thanks Alan.

47339 spent a few days in Cornwall in April 1988, covering for a 37 that was on maintenance at Laira.

It is seen here shunting at Parkandillack on the 25th, when the sun was at its worst – straight down the track.
That’s the trouble with photographers and the sun – never satisfied!

We're very satisfied Ron - many thanks.

One likes to remember the pleasant scene above - this is now lost forever with the establishment of a waste to energy plant and its approach road on the green fields alongside the train. Take a look at Google Earth.

Having now made up its lengthy train at Parkandillack, 47339 passes Treviscoe and heads for St Blazey. The three wagons behind the loco are carrying bagged clay for export.
