Two Classics from
Mike Roach
Mike, who lived in the Plymouth area at the time had the good fortune to have a very good camera and the interest and opportunities to travel around and take the very many 'Gems' of pictures which we already have on site.  Here are two more -'Hot off the scanner' one might say. Many many thanks Mike, we look forward to more of your invaluable pictures and records of past times.
Picture
2900 County class 1007 of Truro shed enters Plymouth Station with a train from Cornwall past the West Signal Box and its wonderful array of semaphore signals in the early summer of 1959. Gem number one from Mike Roach. Copyright
Picture
2903 T9 number 30711 of Exmouth Junction shed stands outside Okehampton Shed in the early summer of 1959. The loco was withdrawn a couple of months later in September 1959. Many thanks Mike. Copyright.
Another Classic
Liskeard
Clive Smith

Picture
In glorious autumn sunsine, 46045 arrives at Liskeard with the 10.05 Penzance - York relief train on the 29th October 1983.Great that 46045 is preserved and I had the pleasure of a reacqaintance with it in late 1960s economy blue livery seen here (Below) at Corfe Castle at the Swanage Diesel Gala on the 7th May 2016. Very appropriate that the peak is showing 1E21 the headcode of the 'Cornishman' Penzance - Leeds express. Regards Clive. Copyright Clive Smith.

ASPIC Explained

Picture
800XXX Swindon Mystery 12.32 7th August 2019. Brian Pibworth.
With reference to the above picture Brian Pibworth wrote  - "To Swindon for the GWR Museum and a chance to pick up a few freights amongst the ubiquitous Hitachi 800s.  One stopped right in front and as I recovered my composure when it blocked the PW train behind, I noticed the labelling on the undercarriage.  UREA is no stranger as we put AdBlue into our car to reduce some of the exhaust nasties and presumably GWR are doing the same, but ASPIC was beyond me.  I have looked online for railway acronyms but drawn a blank and apart from reaching for the Mary Berry books and a pint of prawns I can't think what it is.  Could any of our "insider" members help?"
David Critchlow writes - Hi all,
I believe it could be Air Supply Isolating Cock but I’m not a Hitachi expert (not an expert at anything really!) – see http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/acronyms.html
 Cheers  Regards,  Dave Critchlow

Many thanks David- you are an expert David at finding out! Congratulations and thanks once again.  That link provided by David/FGW is well worth checking on.
