Plymouth
Clive Smith

Good Afternoon Keith, Hope all is well as we suffer yet another hard lockdown.. Thankfully you have Craig out and about with his work and some contributors with well timed exercise. I will endeavour to capture some local scenes but subject matter is a bit thin so I will make an effort if the sun is shining and my work area patterns permit . In the meantime I will send some archive photos to fill the gaps if submissions are a bit thin.
Regards, Clive

(1) 50005 Collingwood approaches Cornwall Loop Viaduct just west of Plymouth station with the Sunday 14.15 Penzance - Waterloo on the 14th October 1984. This view is now impossible and the waste ground now goes by the name North Road West Dog Park with trees obscuring what was once the view across to the viaduct. This was where the Cornwall extension to Millbay passed through. The remains of the viaduct now carry the ..er.. distinctive sculpture. Where I took the picture was just opposite the Patna pub also now gone.
During this period of 'Lock Down' when casual journeys away from home are no longer permitted, maybe, while on your essential journey you pass something of interest!! Otherwise your pictures from the past are also very much appreciated.
'Blue tractor off the rails, &
Sir Edward to the rescue!'

Bill Elston
On 4th May, 1989, during my lunch break, I paid my occasional visit to Exmouth Junction coal depot to see what was going on.
I was met by 37162 being re-railed with 50007 in attendance with the Laira Breakdown Train.  The attached 4 views give some idea of the expanse of the Depot.

Incidentally, I was very interested in Paul Barlow’s phots of Ramillies being stuck at the bottom of Holloway Street, Exeter. I’m surprised I was not in any of his shots as I was there at about the same time!

Also views at the Coal Depot now just a memory - healthy trees grow up here now.

Advance notice -
Steam Dreams to the west
Roy Hart

Dear Keith,  I see that the Steam Dreams company have announced a special to Devon and Cornwall from September 28th to October 1st, hauled by LNER B1 MAYFLOWER and LMS Jubilee BAHAMAS. The three-day duration suggests that it may run to Penzance. The train will start in London, they say.  Regards Roy
Many thanks for spotting that Roy.
