Tornado Today

Tornado arrived on the West Somerset Railway from Southall with its support coach this (Saturday) afternoon. (10th July 1989)  The loco is stabling overnight at Bishops Lydeard before working a main-line special from Taunton to  Plymouth on Sunday then diesel haulage to Par. Tornado with the return special departs Plymouth at 18.54hrs  I have attached some photos taken part-way along the section of the WSR between Norton Fitzwarren and Bishops Lydeard which is not normally traversed other than by special workings from the main line.

Today I visited the Somerset end of Whiteball Tunnel to capture Colas 70809 top and tailing a rake of AutoBallasters running as 08.00 Crediton-Westbury Down T.C, actually passing Marley at 09.03 (running 7 early at this point) 2 shots of the working enclosed for CRS

Yeovil Junction 1

Hi Keith
To mark the end of Southern steam on 9th July 1967,  Merchant Navy class 35018, BRITISH INDIA LINE  headed a charter train from London Victoria to Yeovil Pen Mill, thence to Weymouth and back to Victoria. 
35018 was removed at Yeovil jct for servicing and turning. It then ran in reverse to Weymouth.

Gents,

Keith, Bill and myself were members of the Ladysmith Road trainspotters club. To complete the scene 35018 leaving Yeovil Junction for Weymouth.

I have been advised that Yeovil Junction Depot is officially being opened today. The former down through road has walkways, lighting and hop-ups. Similarly two of the sidings at the Sherborne end have also been treated. Photos attached.

Taunton

Harry Needle's 37610 is captured at Taunton whilst working 3Q06 UTU2 from Reading Triangle Sidings to Taunton where the train reversed to Weston-Super-Mare working back to Taunton where I was able to grab a quick photo before heading to Bristol High Level Goods where the train was stabled in the early hours of the 8th July 2021
