Follow this railtour in Diesel Railtours 2014 onwards.
Just a few days past the 50th anniversary of the event Mike Roach reminds us of the famed last run of a steam hauled train to Penzance 3rd May 1964. Take a look at our steam railtours section to see more pictures of this epic journey and of other railtours. 34007 Wadebridge restored many years ago at this railway returned to star in the May 2014 Gala. There are 28 locomotives built by: 'Lokomo, this is the only one in the UK,and brought over from Finland by Spirit of the West American Theme Park Retallack, Cornwall as an attraction for the park. The Lokomo 1103 was on display for many years until the park closed, where it stayed in a specially constructed shed until sold for scrap. Summercourt scrap yard bought this locomotive, however not to be scraped; it is going to be lovingly preserved at its new home Summercourt scrap yard and takes pride and place in the yard in all its glory as a fine example and one of a few remaining Lokomo locomotives built in 1943. Infor from You tube. Pictures courtesy of Summercourt Scrapyard Re The Henry Orchard Scrap traffic from St.Blazey.
This traffic is now confirmed as ceased. In recent years the traffic has been run with a dedicated fleet of five MBA 'monsterbox' wagons and a bit of digging today revealed the following: The last time all five loaded wagons departed from St.Blazey was in train 6C39 on 8th November 2013. This was also the train that conveyed the last discharged fuel tanks from Long Rock. The loss of the fuel traffic seems to of left it uneconomical to run a service just for the scrap. After the five wagons last left loaded together back in November DB Schenker only managed a further trip on 17th January 2014 when just two wagons left tagged to the clay on 6C55. The empty wagons found their way back and all five languished at St.Blazey during the recent Dawlish closure. Then last week, on May 2nd 2014, the five wagons left St.Blazey for Newport EMPTY. The traffic has finished, and the 'grab' that was based at St.Blazey for loading as been removed. Regards Nathan Many thanks for this information, keep digging. 2Z11 07.00 Exeter SD to Penzance

Exton on the Exmouth Branch has recently acquired a small hump on the short platform. Only a small section has been done. The line could do with the attention of the weed spray team!!!! I guess it would have cost millions to complete the entire platform!!!
