“161215kk Signal Box diagrams of Axminster to Yeovil Junction etc. Copyright Roger Winnen” shows the panel removed from Chard Junction signal-box when control of the line was transferred to Basingstoke. That was the third panel to have existed at Chard Jcn, the first being a temporary panel used while the original L&SWR signal-box was being demolished and replaced by the (now defunct) new signal-box containing the second panel, that in turn being replaced by the third panel (seen in the picture) when the ‘dynamic loop’ was installed at Axminster. Note the CCTV screen for monitoring Axminster Gates level-crossing, on which someone has stuck an appropriate colour picture! Regards Chris

GBRF and Colas Images from Westbury Guy Vincent
Bringing some colour to an otherwise grim Wiltshire this morning 66749 came across to Westbury from Eastleigh to work the 'as required' 6M40 1156 Westbury-Stud Farm ballast empties. This was the last of the 5 European imported GB 66's to appear on this working, all (66747-66751) having now covered at least one run. Having seen it at Westbury I went on to Melksham and caught 66749 passing through the sadly depleted remains of the 1847-built GWR station there as it headed eastwards towards Thingley Jctn and the GW Bristol-Paddington main line.
Also at Westbury were no less than seven Colas class 70s including 70801 with the RILA test equipment attached to its leading end. Seeing the modern type 5's lined up reminded me of 40 years ago when I first started visiting Westbury. Then, it was often possible to see similar lines of class 52 'Western' diesel hydraulics in their final months of traffic resting between Mendip stone traffic duties. I know which locos I would rather be observing!
I have included a shot each of 66747 (09.02.2016) and 66748 (30.09.2015) when they were in the area and prior to repainting in GBRf livery. Lastly, one of 66748 at Bristol Temple Meads on 2nd Nov. with the empty Portbury-Hexthorpe Biomass working. This loco has been repainted and named 'West Burton 50'.
Additional on 15th November. To add to yesterday's posting here are some images showing the other two GBRf Euro-sheds as they are known, 66750 (16th May 2016 at Westbury) and 66751 (31.03.2016 approaching Westbury and then near Melksham). Also, the site of Broughton Gifford Halt (closed Feb 1955) on 10.03.2012, and the nameplates on 66750 & 751.
Many thanks to you Guy

I was lucky enough to be on it, as was Mike Roach. The weather was good and the train full.
There was quite a collection of people waiting on the platform at Delebole. Some of them had travelled out from Wadebridge having been told that there was an extra very last train coming down the line. What the hadn't been told was that our train was Charter Train and they weren't permitted to ride. Quite how they got home is not known!!

The next photographs were taken by Emma Shard, who gives us the insight to the operation which was carried out at St Blazey depot in turning the engine.
With 46233 'Duchess of Sutherland' being the first Duchess class in Cornwall it was a case of trial and error at St Blazey Turntable.
After 46233 arrived with its train at Par, the locomotive and its support coach proceeded to St Blazey for turning. Prior to the locos arrival at St Blazey, the protective fencing around the turntable had to be cut down to allow clearance for the loco to be turned, a temporary low fence was put around for safe viewing much to the disapproval of the land owner of the roundhouse industrial site who didn't want the fence on his land, so the fence was taken away leaving the turntable open (however no one was injured or killed at any point during this time). Much measuring and gauging was to be had before turning commenced.
Turning of the locomotive then started briefly before a bang was heard as one of the brake pipes fouled what remained of the uprights of the fence causing minor damage, proceedings was paused while organizers gathered to see what damage was caused. Turning then recommenced and the loco was successfully turned with inches to spare and a round of applause from the spectators. After repair work to the brake pipe of the loco then re-joined the support coach. Many Thanks Emma

160807r The Coronation Class worked into Plymouth for a short period during early 1956 when engines of the King Class were withdrawn owing to defects with the leading bogie. If it was not for the tall office block built to house the Plymouth Divisional Western Region headquarters in the early 1960s, this photograph could have been 1956. Copyright Roger Winnen
The Cornwall Railway Society visit to Gunnislake, The Calstock Incline and a River Tamar Trip to Plymouth Photographs by Roger Winnen and Roger Salter
160730n We were invited to have a look around this coach on Calstock Quay. Built as GWR 1195 it had six wheels and five compartments. This body only was built in 1886 and possibly ran for six years as broad gauge prior to be converted to standard gauge, steam heat fitted in July, 1900 and used as a workmans carriage in January, 1931.
