Meanwhile down at Coombe Junction the Looe branch service train starts to pull away from the platform - this platform only sees a couple of trains a day, rarely sees passengers, and is always near the top of the list of least-used stations in Great Britain. Most trains come no further than the actual junction which is just out of sight around the bend in the distance. Copyright Mike Roach
With many thanks to Mike Roach for this record of a day in the Liskeard area.
Lynton and Barnstaple Railway visited in June 2015 pictures by Chris Osment
The platform and trackbed at Snapper Halt, recently cleared after 80 years of closure, looking towards Barnstaple. The shelter is the original structure, which remained in place after the railway was closed in 1935 and has been refurbished, but the station nameboard is a replacement. 24th June 2015 Copyright Chris Osment

Bristol area - a dozen fascinating old pictures from the Michael Morant collection
On one of the rare workings of any passenger rail vehicle off the main line down to Bristol Docks as we see Class 117 DMU B430 down at Wapping Wharf on the 8th June 1985. (Does anybody know if it carried passengers to Wapping Wharf via Ashton Junction? This unit became a firm favourite in the West Country with its chocolate and cream livery. It spent much of its time on the holiday branch to St Ives and it was on a service on this branch where one of the power cars had a serious electrical fault which led to its demise. Surely, it was thought, this set would survive into preservation but it was not to be. Courtesy the Mike Morant Collection

150822i 150002 from the Reading area forms the 10.27 service from Exmouth to Barnstaple. This unit was brought into the area to strengthen services during the Dawlish Air Show and was due to return on Sunday to work the Reading to Basingstoke service, however reports suggest that this unit returned on Monday morning to Reading owing to the RMT dispute on Sunday Copyright Roger Winnen
150822k With thunder storms in the channel I made a move towards the station at Dawlish, opposite a bus was going to Teignmouth, which I boarded to avoid the queue system at Dawlish Station. Arriving in the rain at Teignmouth was the 15.38 Exeter to Newton Abbot service. Notice the light at the rear of the train, see the next photograph. Copyright Roger Winnen
150822l The train approaching dosn't stop at Platform 2, its the 06.32 service from Dundee To Newquay overtaking the other service to Newton Abbot. This up main is bi directional from Teignmouth to Dawlish Warren very useful in stormy conditions and for operational purposes such as today. Copyright Roger Winnen

A brief history of Class 60's in Cornwall and Devon.
An article by Roger Geach
Mention made of not many class 60 pictures on the CRS web pages. Here is 60037 on the 1643 St Blazey to Exeter Riverside freight taken at Dinnaton just west of the old Ivybridge station. 1st August1995. This loco and service was being used to train St Blazey drivers on the class 60 locomotives at this time. Note three people in the cab. The class 60 were RA8 and thus too heavy for many of the Cornish Branch lines although they were later cleared west of Burngullow to Penzance and also the Fowey branch. Never common west of Burngullow but they did work the Penzance fuel tanks from time to time. The main use of these locos were to replace pairs of class37 on the Burngullow to Irvine clay slurry tanks and the St Blazey to Cliffe Vale service. These services ran far more frequently in those days and class 60s could be seen for a few years at work in Cornwall. They became far rarer later after the millennium.

East of Gwinear Road the reddish brown of the freshly tilled field brings the blue of the HST into sharp contrast. On wonders what the new 'green' scheme for First Great Western, now to be known as 'Great Western' will look like against a background like this? -Virtually invisible, me thinks.
