The Movements and Naming of 56302 to The West Somerset Railway, Mick House.

Driver Alan Peters had the honour of being the Colas Driver for the WSR gala / Peco naming ceremony which saw him travel to Washwood Heath on Thursday 9th June to fetch 56302 from Boden Rail Engineering. By Mick House with photos and words by Alan Peters with additional photo by Roy Peters.
(In his words Alan explains), the loco has not been repainted but suitably polished and new ‘Oscar’ logos added with paintwork touched up including handrails, which were still wet. I worked 0V40 with nameplates covered to Minehead (conducted from Fairwater yard) 56302 was placed on display on the turntable at the seaside resort as it was not used on the Friday. Saturday 11th June was the big day which saw 140 guests of Peco arrive by steam train, I moved 56302 off the turntable into the bay platform for naming where the loco was named "PECO - The Railway Modeller - 2016 70 years" I was lucky enough to get a special Peco limited edition Colas N gauge wagon which were given to staff. Following the naming the newly named 56302 worked Minehead to Bishops Lydeard with all the Peco guests and return. The grid also made a return trip from Minehead on the Sunday and a single trip to Bishops Lydeard where the loco was stabled for Mondays return back to Washwood Heath.                   Many Thanks Alan and Roy Peters.

The 2016 Photocompetition  – the classes and winners

As a parting gift, as we are sadly losing him and Rosemary, when they move up country quite soon Ian McKey provided us with a very pleasant hours entertainment as he provided a very slick show of all the photographic competition entries together with location details and comments. Many many thanks to you Ian for your considerable time and trouble.
Ian thanked in particular Nigel Tregoning for scanning all the entries to the five sections of the competition. Also many thanks to the judges who gave of their valuable time – Peter Bragg, Gerry Chandler and Christine Simmonds.

Goonbarrow Junction
- 'All change please'

Hi Keith, as promised a few more smudges of the Orange Army in action at Goonbarrow. Sorry about the quality but the lighting was tricky! We've had some heavy metal up here and a huge amount of manpower who really have pulled out all the stops. In less than 24hrs the up main and all its ballast has been removed. New ballast and sleepers laid and new rails fitted. The tamper should be in on Sunday and normal service will resume on Monday,  train passengers being none the wiser about what a hive of activity this little place has been. Also included is a shot of our frames three newly redundant levers. Sad days indeed!
Best wishes  Gareth
