Doing a little bit of research on behalf of Steve Martin who is making 1957 model of St Erth station I came across on the web a map of St Erth station area in 1890. Surprisingly, the bridge which carries the railway over the minor road between the A30 and St Erth village did not then exist and the roadway passed close to the entrance to the station cutting across the line just to the west of the current footbridge. At some later date, though very long ago, considerable engineering works were carried out to deviate the roadway under the line.

On the up platform a change from a stone supporting wall to brick indicates where the platform must have been extended once the level crossing had been abolished. 7th January 2014 Copyright Roger Winnen
