Hello Roger, two more shots from Michael Adams showing 47s and ,of course, the lovely semaphores, at Westbury. Firstly 47035 on 7 May 1981 with some of the four wheeled hoppers of that time, service unknown. Copyright Michael Adams

Mid Cornwall Castle

Tuesday 03.09.24 saw the booked IET working 1C74, 09:04 Paddington to Newquay, swapped at Plymouth for GWR 'Castle' set GW08 with 43186 and 43198. The pair cross the old A30 at Tregoss Moor on the way to Newquay. Copyright Jon Hird.
Picture
Spinning around, we see the set again as it continues on to Newquay. In the distance are both new and old A30 trunk roads, and Castle-An-Dinas ancient hillfort, a site of many local legends/folklores and also the namesake of (now stored) GWR powercar 43160. Copyright Jon Hird.
Picture
The train arrives at Newquay where, surprisingly, platform 1 doesn't really seem to exist any more! It will be interesting to see how the new platform looks. Copyright Tony Shore.

43198 prepares to depart Newquay. Copyright Tony Shore.
Picture
The set worked back as far as Plymouth as 1A94 the 14:55 Newquay - Paddington. It's seen here looking rather out of place on the ungated crossing on Tregoss Moor. Copyright Jon Hird.

43186 pushes from the rear as the train builds up speed away from the crossing and up the gradient towards the iron bridge. Copyright Jon Hird.
Many thanks, Tony

The South meets the West at Exeter St David’s today. A Bulleid light pacific and a Hall class would have been my preference! 03.09.2024, copyright James Bown.
Thank you very much James - I am sure everyone would echo your sentiments about preferred traction!
