The weather got worse and worse on Sunday and any plans of taking a camera out had to be abandoned in the afternoon. A video of the final train of the day, lead by the pair of Class 50's, storming through Charlies Gate. 29.09.2024, copyright Jon Hird

Bathpool
Bill Elston

Good afternoon Roger,

I was over at Bathpool this morning (27.09.2024) for the Mayflower railtour from Birmingham to Plymouth.

From Bristol it was headed by Castle Class locos CLUN CASTLE and EARL OF MOUNT EDGCUMBE, and shadowed by class 20s
20189 and 20142.

Please see photos.

Best wishes,

Bill Elston

Thunderer at Boscarne
Andrew & Diane Jones

Its a rare treat to witness 2 class 50's over the weekend and congratulations must go to the Bodmin Railway for organising a highly authentic event.

Unfortunately the weather closed just before the arrival of 'Thunderer' 50008, but somehow I managed to keep the lenses dry.

I pondered while observing the run round just how many fully loaded wagons could be handled on the bank, clearly today's unloaded consignment barely tested the power of 50008, but as ever adhesion both up to General and down to Bodmin Road would have been crucial.

Has anyone done the sums?

Thanks Andrew & Diane, an interesting 'what could have been' had Wenford Dries not closed, perhaps?

The splendid viaduct at St Germans
James Bown

Picture
I’ve travelled over the viaduct many times as indeed many CRS members no doubt have as well whilst enjoying that spectacular view of the River Nidd estuary. On Saturday 28th September I actually managed to view the structure from the road, just missing a train passing over. It’s a wonderful piece of engineering. Copyright James Bown.
Many thanks James - it's a superb structure in a superb part of the world. Thanks for sending in your photo.
