The Midland Pullman
John Simons

Today (17.09.24) the Midland Blue Pullman ran from Carnforth to the West Somerset Railway, Minehead, a journey of some seven and a half hours !

A couple of are pictures taken at Crowcombe Heathfield station on the return journey.

Many thanks, John - great to see a mainline train on the branch.

Lelant Views
Dennis Clarke

Hi Keith, Roger and Jon,

Hope all is well.  Enjoyed the China Clay presentation on Saturday.
I had a round of golf today at West Cornwall Golf Club and couldn’t resist a few phone photos of the train passing by.

There is also a palisade fence being erected alongside the coastal path adjacent to the railway.

Regards,
Dennis

Gorgeous views across Hayle. An operation is underway to extract sand from the estuary here which has been met with strong feelings from the locals. Copyright Dennis Clarke.

Another trip down the branch. Godrevy Lighthouse is visible just in front of the unit. Copyright Dennis Clarke.

A necessary evil in todays modern world - Palisade fencing being erected along the branch at Lelant. At least the line is perched atop an embankment - hopefully it won't prove too intrusive for photographs. Copyright Dennis Clarke.

Many thanks indeed, Dennis - you certainly picked the right day for it.

China Clay for export

At 18:00 on 17.09.2024, we see 66152 discharging its JIA wagons at Fowey Carne Point, whilst the EEMS Rover gets ready to depart. Copyright Jon Hird.
Picture
Sadly with the current timings of the Fowey traffic and in the absence of a morning train, there is no chance of photographing a train in the docks with the sun on your side. Visible in this photograph is the loading aparatus which fills the ships with powdered clay, it's on rails and can move up and down the jetty. 17.09.2024, copyright Jon Hird.
Picture
The ship dwarfs the class 66. The vessel departed for the Port of Izmit (Turkey) at 19:02, 66152 departed for Goonbarrow a few minutes afterwards. 17.09.2024, copyright Jon Hird.
Picture
I called in at Golant to see if there was any point in hanging around for the train to leave - there wasn't, the sun had already dropped below the hills and the line was in shadow. I did, however, see another ocean-going vehicle in the form of a Mk.1 Porsche Cayenne, although I'm not sure what flag she was sailing under! The vehicle did drive away, so hopefully no harmful water damage for the owner. Copyright Jon Hird.
