River Severn
Dennis Flood

Roger,
Good morning to you.
These are the remains of the ‘Arkendale H’ and the ‘Wastdale H’ barges in the River Severn near Sharpness in Gloucestershire which were involved in the collision with the Severn Railway Bridge in 1960 - still visible in the river at low tide 64 years after the event - a bit of history still in view.!
I took this image from a passing train earlier this week.
The barges left Sharpness Docks in thick fog and subsequently collided with the railway bridge, which was not repaired and it was eventually demolished.
The Severn Railway Bridge was built by the Hamilstons Windsor Ironworks Company of Garston, Liverpool.
This company was located not far from where the current Garston Freightliner Container Terminal is today.
The site of it is now a large housing estate.
Regards,
Dennis.

Thanks Dennis

St. Erth Scenes
Dennis Clarke

I took a few pictures of the footbridge replacement at St Erth today (30.10.2024).  The old bridge is still in place at the side of the station awaiting collection by the East Somerset Railway this Saturday.

I walked from the westbound platform to the up platform and counted 105 steps via the temporary steps !   Certainly keeps you fit !!!!

Many thanks Dennis - a controversial bridge for sure, but nevertheless, it's always good to see investment into both accessibility and rail.
