Saturday Clay
Thomas Lloyd

Morning Jon.

My wife and I were having a trundle in the car through mid Cornwall last Saturday and as we crossed the level crossing at Lostwithiel I was astounded to see a clay train! I didn't know they ran on Saturdays. Here's a shot from next to the signal box. I filmed 66120 going over the crossing.

I love the pictures of the Wadebridge wanderer rail tour that Roger Winnen has been sending in. I noticed in the pictures Roger sent you of the 50 at Falmouth that the 50 is attached to some 16 ton mineral wagons rather than coaches in one of the photos. Was it shunting on the same day or did a photo of a freight train get mixed in? All fantastic stuff, keep up the good work, it is much appreciated.

Many thanks for your email Thomas. The clay train you saw was the empty wagon movement from Westbury to Goonbarrow, 6V76 - the JIA fleet is maintained there now that St. Blazey yard is out of action. A good question about the 50 - hopefully Roger or somebody else can come along and tell us!

Mystery Location
Michael Forward

A friend of mine gave me this print which was at a postcard fair, no details on the back so where is it??

A wealth of detail including Inter -City type DMU;signal box and signals which suggest a junction in the distance.

I note - with a magnifying glass - that there are some Mark 1 sleeping cars in the siding on the left.

You will see the Castle has a full load of coal in the tender as if about to start a journey, perhaps to London.

My own thoughts are West Wales but I do not think it is Carmarthen or Swansea.

Any ideas please?

In the meantime, enjoy the picture.

Thanks, all the best,

Michael Forward.
