Clay & a Castle
Craig Munday

Picture
On 6th 66054 is seen in glorious light along the Causeway at Golant. The tide was out sadly, but train / sun days are getting into a minority these days. Just Mon / Tues generally now. 06.10.2025, copyright Craig Munday.
Picture
Down at Brea, also on 6th, a Castle set (43187/43098) crosses Brea embankment. Poignant that only a matter weeks left for these sets now. 06.10.2025, copyright Craig Munday.
Picture
66054 sits awaiting departure 8th Oct with an impressive 15 wagons snaking into the distance along the rather forlorn St Blazey complex. Four of the rake were empty so presumably going to Westbury for maintenance4 of some sort. The former DB CDA wagon 102 sits alongside, also looking rather downbeat since its withdrawal. How wonderful is the Oct light for illuminating the loco? No eyebrow shadows over the windscreens that you get in high Summer. 08.10.2025, copyright Craig Munday.

Finally, I would like to pay a tribute to Steve Marshall famous from Globe Videos, and an author too. Steve sadly passed away recently after returning from Spain where he had lived since retiring. Steve was a lovely man, happy to chat all things railways, particularly his beloved Western diesel hydraulics. He encouraged my father Morven to let him feature his 1968 onward cine films he shot across the Duchy. Dad was always so grateful that Steve took exceptional care of his films and they brought joy to legions of Hydraulic fans. Scenes included the Warships on the Hayle branch, Triple header Warship on an Up London filmed at Hayle and his favourite Western D1012 Western Firebrand's visit to Hayle wharves. RIP Steve. Image copyright Morven Munday.
Many thanks as always Craig, and sorry to hear of Steve's passing - may he rest in peace.

Devon HST Hunt

Picture
43198 coasts silently into Ivybridge with the 2E06 07.45 Penzance - Exeter St Davids. 43156 on the rear doing all the work. 09.10.2025, copyright Clive Smith.
Picture
A silent 43198 ready to leave Newton Abbot with 2E06 07.45 Penzance - Exeter St Davids. 43156 on the rear. I gather 43198's engine cut out over the Royal Albert Bridge and then, following fitters' attention at Plymouth, shortly later in Mutley Tunnel. 09.10.2025, copyright Clive Smith.
Many thanks Clive - interesting to read about 43198 in 'economy mode'!

Pilning Freightliner

Many thanks Phil, a dramatic image.

On the down at Dowgas
Jon Hird
