Re: Doublebois Yard
Roy Hart

Yesterday, we published an email from Roger Geach who mentioned the permanent way yard which was once at Doublebois. We have received the below from Roy Hart with further information on the facility.

Dear All,

A spread of four long sidings was provided at Doublebois in 1943 to serve a War Department depot. They were connected to the down refuge siding at the Plymouth end of the station by a double compound point.

After the war the WD surrendered the site and it became a PW base for Cornwall, taking over most of the work previously carried out by the much smaller facility at Lostwithiel.

At Doublebois there were stacks of PW materials. I remember seeing new point connections being assembled there.

The yard ceased to be used in 1967. Doublebois box closed soon afterwards on 11th Jan 1968.

Roy

Many thanks Roy, much appreciated

Diversions on The Southern
David Tozer

Today Saturday 2nd November 2024 services that usually work between Exeter and Waterloo were replaced and operated between Exeter and Gillingham. Most trains were diagrammed for a single Class 159 with several other workings just a solitary two car Class 158.

158881 still in South West Trains livery approached Pinhoe with the
1325 Exeter to Gillingham.

The lineside vegetation appears to be getting worse here at Exhibition
Way, not far from Pinhoe Station.

Many thanks Dave, quite the journey for a 2-car DMU!
