Double headed 47's

Back in the RFD days when the St. Blazey - Dollands Moor ran from Exeter Riverside with a pair of RFD 47s in multi, the headcode was 6O92. This train left Riverside around 0930/1000 if I recall right.

The 47s worked the empties down to Riverside Sunday night/Monday morning then headed back later with the loaded heavy train.

47281 and 47307 sit in the yard at riverside 03.12.1996, this is just another flow of traffic lost.

There must be a few CRS members who photographed this service - I was more likely to see this service in the London area at the time.

Creech RHTT

With the leaf-busting season drawing to a close, I thought it was about time to grab a couple of phots of the RHTT through Creech.

Today's offering was GBRf 57306 leading 57305, on 3S13 Westbury to Fairwater Yd, running to time, and resplendent in 'leaf-busting' livery.

We've not seen many photos of the RHTT this year, perhaps due to the unsociable hours in which it visits Cornwall. Many thanks for these, Bill.

South Brent Sunshine

Some unexpected sun in south Devon so a quick trip out to the site of Brent station for a fot of 2E06 07.45 Penzance - Exeter St Davids with 43186 on the front and 43187 on the rear. RHTT Loco Swap

Clean(ish) 66133 and 66151 at Bristol Temple Meads today on the 3S59 Swindon-Moreton on Lugg-Hereford-Portbury-Swindon RHTT. This contract is operated by Colas who in turn hire locos from DB Cargo and these arrived at Swindon from Toton on 25th, displacing 66096 and 66176 which have now returned to their home depot for attention. Let's hope a good wash and brush-up is included!

GWR steam returns to Bristol

This week the once well-known 1/16th scale model of loco 6000 King George V was returned to Bristol Temple Meads station after being absent for several years. The model, built in 1930 by Bassett-Lowke, has been restored and placed inside a new attractive glass display case and can be found in the main passenger subway. Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to put a coin in and watch the motion at work but nonetheless nice to see it back. There is also a large display outlining the loco's history. For many years, the model was near the top of the stairs on platform 3 and it would be fitting to see it replaced there once the ongoing renovation works are finally completed.
