In summer 2004, Virgin Trains, having retired their HST fleet the previous year, found themselves in a situation where they didn't have nearly enough stock to run their services. As well as hiring in HST's, they also hired in class 67's and mk2 stock to run cross country services to Paignton. 67027 is seen on departing from Dawlish with such a working, the 08:43 Paignton - Preston, on 31.07.2004.
