Newton Abbot Diesels
Paul Barlow

A couple more from 1982, this time at Newton Abbot.

Virtually everything has now disappeared, the locos, the stock, the platforms, the signals, signal box and David and Charles book publishers.

The signal gantry at the end of platforms 1 & 2 is now in the car park of Aldi supermarket nearby.

Many thanks once again, Paul

Night Riviera at London Euston
Dennis Clarke

The Night Riviera from Penzance to London went to Euston this morning (18.11.2024), instead of Paddington.

57603 and 57605 were the train locos.  Locomotive Services 90001 was hired in from Crewe to provide an Electric Train Heat supply for a few hours whilst the 57s were shut down. Apparently this was to prevent diesel fumes under the roof at Euston.

Below are several photos that I took there this morning.

I believe that this will be repeated at some time over the Christmas/New Year period.

It was certainly interesting to see.  The train left Euston for Reading about 30 mins late, waiting for a driver,

Locomotive Services 90001 was attached to the train to provide electric supply, presumably the 57's diesel engine could not be left running due to noise and fumes beneath the low station roof. 18.11.2024, copyright Dennis Clarke.

Many thanks Dennis - an unusual sight - nice to see an alternative terminus used rather than simply cancelling the service.

Many thanks Tony - hopefully the works go to plan.
