Western on freight
Roger Geach

1012 passing Respryn with the 7C52 1010 St. Blazey to Severn Tunnel Junction freight on 17.09.1973 - always well loaded back in those days. For quite a few years we had a 1010 departure (or around that time) freight leave St. Blazey.

Depending on what year the destinations changed, as did the headcode.

Best remembered was 7S38, a through service to Glasgow. It ran class 6 from Exeter.

Normally the loco off 7C52 would return from Exeter to St Blazey with the 1400 7B33 Exeter Riverside to Truro freight. This was the only morning booked freight one saw in East Cornwall coming out of the county.

Many thanks as always Roger, excellent note keeping. How things have changed.

Many thanks both - hopefully 57604 behaves itself at the gala!

More thoughts on the 'new North Cornwall line'
John Root

John Root writes in response to the proposed new North Cornwall route we covered earlier this week:

File this one under 'quarter and half baked' In my 'umble etc. Not going to happen! Far better to spend money on Plymouth Okehampton and get some return!

Thanks John - I quite imagine you are not alone in those thoughts!
